Strömsholms Canal

Take a ride with our Daycruiser through scenic Strömsholm canal. The canal is one of Sweden's longer and it follows Kolbäcksån from Smedjebacken in the north by the municipalities of Fagersta, Surahammar and Hallstahammar to Strömsholm in the south where it empties into Lake Mälaren. The canal, which was commissioned in 1795, is 107 kilometers long, of which 12 km are dug. There are 26 locks and the total reduction from Lake Barken to Mälaren is 99 meters. With a boat trip in the Fagersta neighborhood is the channel through Aspen Lakes and Åmänningen.





World Heritage Ängelsberg

During the boat trip on the Strömsholm canal is the opportunity to visit Engelsberg factory as one of the main industrial memories in the world and is since 1993 on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. Fagersta

At the big lake Aspen is situated Fagersta Västanfors community center with many attractions along Strömsholm canal and is northern Västmanland's largest tourist destination. Here you can shop, have a cup of coffee, visit 20 buildings from the past and Rune Lindström Museum. There is also a summer lakeside Restaurante with bar and entertainment several nights a week. Since the Middle Ages, it has produced iron in the region and gradually grew Fagersta to an international known steel producing town. Fagersta became a city in 1944. Steel producing city's like Fagersta is characteristic of the region Bergslagen. They were shaped by centuries of life around the mine and to transform ore into steel, and in turn contributed to shaping the 1900s Swedish welfare state
